SELF PROCLAIMED FOOD WHORE

Location: Long Grain, Sydney

Okay, I admit it!! I am a bit of a food whore. I want to eat something different every night! I get bored if I don’t move around enough. So being veggie is a bit tricky since there are not so many vegetarian restaurants in Sydney…. To overcome this, I always pick out the veggie options at non vegetarian places. In fact, I get a little thrill from hassling the wait staff to tailor a veggie meal that isn’t specifically on the menu… shame on me! A great place to find vegan food is at thai restaurants! You just have to be careful of shrimp paste and fish sauce.

Last night I went to Long Grain one of Sydney’s tastiest fusion thai restaurants. They do not have many Vegetarian options but the ones they do have are unbelievable. We ate the Vegetarian version of the beetle leaf entrĂ©e (a delicious mix of green papaya, coriander, kefir lime, coriander, peanuts and coconut wrapped in a beetle leaf). We also had a green vegetarian curry and a bamboo shoot and silken tofu tomato salad. You have a choice of white and brown rice (I choose the brown rice of course). I couldn’t decide which was more delicious; the beetle leaves or the bamboo salad.

The overall experience was fantastic! The energy and vibe at the cocktail bar was lively and the food was spot on! YUM!! I let myself indulge in not one but three cocktails! I could not resist these amazing concoctions, they were simply divine! Spoiling yourself on the occasion is important… right?

Sola rosa

The stickmata was incredible: Sloeberry vodka, fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and fresh lime. But my favorite was defiantly the Sola rosa: red pisco, cherry herring, aperol, fresh watermelon, coconut syrup and lemon juice.

Are you a food whore? Do you hassle wait staff? Tell me please!

I am the anti-thesis of a food whore. My whole goal is just not to be hungry and to not get a stomach ache!

I still love your blog though - you are a knockout.

Yes!

I'm demanding, in a nice way ;) I do try to do a little research in advance, though, prepared to help the server/chef out, if necessary. One of my best vegan meals out was at a "traditional" restaurant. I was visiting San Diego and wanted to attend a highly regarded farm to table restaurant. I called in advance and when I arrived they said the chef was prepared to provide several vegan courses. So I just closed the menu, set back with my glass of wine and enjoyed!

oh I love it when you can sit back and let yourself be surprised! I used to hate not knowing exactly what my food would taste like. But I've discovered (perhaps maturing...)that being surprised is actully the best!

That food preparation is so pretty! I LOVE curries, and I always choose ethnic restaurants for vegetarian foods. That's so cool that you're from Sydney - I have a friend that i worked with last summer who lives outside of Sydney.

So glad I stumbled on your blog through Zanita's! Looking forward to sitting down with a cup of Chamomile Tea tonight and reading through all of your Veg an Vegan Profiles!

I'm a Vegetarian who occasionally eats fish but more often than not I avoid dairy as I feel so much better getting my calcium from dark leafy greens and broccoli.

Thanks for the burst of inspiration - looking forward to following your Vegan journey!
